Artist's Biography

Gill Townsend

I use oils, acrylics, watercolours, mixed media and pen and ink wash, depending on the subject or theme that I am painting.
I believe that painting a picture should start from an emotional response to internal or external stimuli.
I am affected by atmosphere and light, which are reflected in my landscapes. My abstracts are pure outpourings of my feelings.

After varied careers including teaching cookery and co-winning a Designer Lingerie shop and then two bouts of cancer, I took early retirement to do a BA (Hons) Art (Practice and History) degree at APU. After the first year, I was lucky to be given the opportunity of a small studio. This finally decided me to do what I had always wanted and became a full-time working artist.
